It rained here while we were gone. A lot.

We’re back from vacay, and yes, it was amazing, and yes, I loved every star-spangled corner, and yes, I made a fool of myself on video and I promise I’ll share.  I think the coolest thing about going to Washington D.C. and Williamsburg was getting to see first-hand all of the things that I’ve loved for a long time – and realizing that they were just as awesome as I had always hoped they’d be. It’s rather like loving an album for years and years and finally getting to see the band live – and, to stay with the simile, I couldn’t contain myself, and was definitely a crazy fangirl when walking through George Washington’s parlor and reading Thomas Jefferson’s letters.

Since Adam and I both have immediate family out of state, we wind up spending a lot of our time-off traveling to see them, and this was an incredible break from any kind of agenda. We had absolutely nowhere to be. Imagine that! Want to go out to breakfast? Let’s do. Want to go to Yorktown? Why not? Want to ride a segway? Of course!

Back east, we had lovely fall weather – but we heard about some crazy storms sweeping through SoCal. So when I went back to teaching on Tuesday, I got a request to ride the “white horse” from one of my munchkins…

… only to discover that he’s not so white anymore. This picture was taken after Little Miss and I tried to brush him out! We finally gave up and she decided to ride Pigpen anyway, and I got a good laugh. Vacation was fabulous, but moments like this remind me that it’s also wonderful to be home.
