Allison Iraheta all the way

I’m a lil’ frustrated today, but rather than talk about that, I will endeavor to distract myself by talking about one of the greatest shows ever created – American Idol – that I have recently become actually pretty jazzed about and can I say I was definitely chewing my fingernails in distress over whether it was gonna be Allison or Anoop last week *BREATH*

Basically, I’m a fan.

Of the show, not so much Anoop. He has a good voice and seems like a super nice guy who probably is pretty quiet and sweet and randomly bursts into song about three beers into Friday night.  But he’s just boring, and I’m honestly glad that he left. I think he deserved to get into the Top 10, but he was kinda getting out of his league. So that’s my mealy-mouthed approach to reviewing Anoop Desai.  I hate it when bloggers don’t make a statement and waffle around, but I can’t help myself. I feel nothing. (Side note – Adam did feel something, and took to calling him “Apoop Decrappy” which made me laugh for the rest of the show because we’re both fifth-graders and poop is funny.)

Anyhoo. I DO feel something about Lil Rounds. She was a great singer, super cute mommy with pipes… what’s not to love? BUT. But. She could never take correction, never learned, picked super obvious, kareoke-type songs and just….. fizzled. So I’m glad that the Fizzler fizzled home to be with her adorable kids and will get a contract where somebody else will pick her songs.

Speaking of feeling something, oh holy cow. I love Allison. Really. Really really. She’s so cool and has a tough-girl voice… but I really like her because she seems like a very normal, fun 16-year-old.  She’s not fake and ditzy, she doesn’t think she’s the best singer ever and always seems cute and surprised by the judges’ good feedback.  I just really want to rock out to her first CD with the windows down and then maybe go the movies together, since buying her a drink won’t work for the next five years.  I just hope she stays authentic when the inevitable album deal and People interview comes down the pike… but I think she will.  Also, her family is adorable and I love seeing her mom get teary-eyed and clap like crazy every week.

Hm. Now I guess I oughtta say something about everybody else, now that I’m on a roll. Don’t want to disappoint my public by doing a halfway job, you know.

Matt Giraud – I go back and forth on this one. Some weeks he’s OK, some weeks I want to rip his lousy bowler off his head and beg him to have personality.  His piano-skillz are definitely mad. But…. meh. Also, can I just point out that saying “I tried to make Stayin’ Alive original” is one of the lamest statements ever made on this show. It’s Stayin’ Alive. You can’t make that original any more than you could replace Elvis as the King of Rock. It’s the Disco song that everybody knows, and that’s code for No Touchy.

Adam Lambert – Again, mad skillz. Again, meh. I just don’t really get it. I have to admit that his slow songs are really good – but again with the feeling nothing.

Danny Gokey – Adam thinks his voice is super gravelly and thus, annoying. I think it’s super gravelly and thus, um, awesome. Paula said he’s got the sexiest voice ever, which is probably a bit much, especially since she’s never heard my husband sing.  But I digress. He’s got style, he’s an everyday guy with an awesome voice, and if he could just figure out how to dance we’d be golden.

Kris Allen – Cute guy, great voice, totally creative and has an adorable wife who also cheers and screams and claps and generally looks so stoked to be married to him that it makes me happy.  I have to admit that I was not a fan at first, but his singer-songwriter style has won me over.

So there you go.

On a related note – what is Kara’s problem? She still has no personality and she always acts like her judgments are straight from heaven, when really they’re just lame.  At least Paula is entertaining, even if she struggles with the whole “making sense” thing.  Also, Ryan smiles like a lizard. I figured that out at the zoo this weekend.

  1. Big surprise, a young Christian girl decides to vote for Kris. I think we’ve already covered this. Sam likes him a little too much.

Kradam finals, and I know who will win – funny sing faces and screeching. And mostly, America.

  2. I am bored with Allison. She seems sweet, but eh.

Danny’s voice annoys the hell outta me.

I like Matt, but I’m done with him; he can go now.

I am COMPLETELY BAFFLED with Adam. Just. Don’t. Get. It.

LOVE me some KRIS ALLEN!!!! xoxoxo omg he iz like sooo cute omg!!! Sorry, Joey, but it’s true. I lurve him.

  3. I’m with Val. I just don’t get Adam. I just think he’s creepy and trying too hard.

Really I love all the rest that are left: Allison, Danny, and Kris. Oh, and Matt I don’t love but I like.
