My new motto: “Can’t keep an Old Gal down”

My grandma is 84 years old. She’s lived through The Great Depression and several smaller recessions, World War II and several smaller wars, severe Polio, putting herself through college, leaving her native Ohio to marry a Californian and never going back, the birth and rearing of four kids and eight grandkids, and one of those eight grandkids living with her for almost a year and nearly making her batty with all the incorrect ways in which she did laundry and closed cupboards. (Yeah, that was me.)

Needless to say, my grandma is one tough lady, whom I greatly admire. Hence my new motto for life, from our phone conversation today:

Me: “Hi, Grandma! How are you?”

Grandma: “Oh pretty good. Can’t keep an old gal down, y’know.”

Darn right you can’t. Hope I can be as fiesty of an old gal as you are, someday.

  1. Now I’m thinking of all the amazing women in my life, young and old. They are truly grand. Thanks for putting it in words!
