27 things

Adam turned 27 yesterday. Unfortunately, I missed the boat and didn’t write an “I love my husband” post for the occasion, so I thought I’d try it today, with a twist. I’m going to share with you the 27 things I’ve learned about marriage and my fella in the whopping 27 days we’ve been married. (I didn’t even try to match up the 27s, it just happened. Isn’t this fortuitous.)

27 Things I Have Learned about Husband/Wifedom, My Husband in Particular and Life in the Nichols House in the last 27 Days

  1. I thought I knew my fiance when engaged. And I did. But I know him better than I ever thought possible now that we’re married, and sometimes little things surprise me. Luckily for me, I’m just constantly amazed at how cool my fella is, so no scary reveals there.
  2. Getting to be together all the time is such a treat. I think I’m a little amazed, in the back of my mind, that we’re not totally sick of each other. But we’re not. And it’s great.
  3. I’ve finally figured out Chess. Oddly enough, Adam seems only excited about this new development, despite the fact that I beat him twice in a row. However, the Chess board is out and something tells the rematch will put me back in my place.
  4. But, this brings me to my next point, that he’s a great sport.
  5. Which also means that he will work out/run with me, even though I’m incredibly slow and red-faced instead of cute and bouncy.
  6. Adam’s an amazing encourager. Too tired to run? You can do it! Too blocked to write? I believe in you! I love how he sees the best in me, even when I feel discouraged by my own shortcomings.
  7. My husband has the most amazing laugh in the world. I love it when I can really make him chuckle.
  8. He also gives the best hugs. Strong and tender all at once.
  9. Watching LOST is a weekly ritual in the Nichols house that is not broken by – well, anything. If you have a theory to talk about or a show-related thought, wait until commercials or pause it, please.
  10. No croutons? Well, it’s not a salad.
  11. No bleu cheese? Heresy.
  12. No meat? Don’t even.
  13. Adam is a champion griller.
  14. He gets stuff down out of the tall cupboards for me almost every day, and never once has minded getting pulled away from something else to help me.
  15. He also vacuums, which is awesome that’s the one household chore I really despise.
  16. Besides taking out the trash. But he does that too.
  17. He’s really good at his job.
  18. He comes home for lunch almost every day and it’s awesome. Sometimes he brings Rick, too, and I love cooking for them both.
  19. I love to cook, and he loves to eat my cooking. It works out.
  20. He’s a really good driver.
  21. I can bounce all kinds of creative ideas off him, he always listens and gives great feedback.
  22. Running errands together is more fun than we ever thought a cajillion stores could be.
  23. “Fixing up the house” together is way fun too.  It helps that Adam is a handyman through and through.
  24. We love our “grind and brew” coffeemaker. Best. Coffee. Ever. As if waking up married wasn’t enough excitement, now we have fresh-ground coffee every morning.
  25. I get riled up about politics. He encourages me, debates or agrees with me and talks me down when I get on frenzied ledges.
  26. He’s the most level-headed guy I know.
  27. He’s my husband and I love him like crazy. Happy 27, fella!

  1. 1) i LOVE the “boots and all” font. I’ve seen it– perhaps even have it somewheres– but i don’t remember what it’s called.

    2) “No meat? Don’t even.”- AMEN!!!

    3) you have a husband. 🙂 mind is still blown. love you. 🙂

  2. I love how well you know each other 🙂 And how much you complement each other (as in complete not giving compliments).
