Forgetting to wear earrings and other stories

I always forget to wear earrings.  Most of the time I just leave little hoopies in that I can just forget about, but occasionally I get on a femininity kick and must wear dangles ala Sarah Palin.  It’s been happening a lot more lately, and I kind of like it. Plus, Somebody else in my life likes it too. Bonus!

I changed out the banner on my little webby here, and I’m not so sure I like it.  I made it, yet it looks rather like the $10 sweater rack at Old Navy – so, not at all like me. I’m really more of a Nordstrom Rack girl. But Christmas! Yay! It’ll do to make me cheery for now at least.

Speaking of Christmas, Adam and I are going home for the hap, happiest season in 13 days. Which means that Christmas is 15 days away, which means I need to get crackin’. I love Christmas errands though. Instead of running to the store for, say, Drano and nonfat milk, I get to pop over to a festooned grocer for EggNog and chips and dip for some party or other.  The only thing that would make it better is if  I was walking from warmly lit baker to butcher, wrapped in a cozy coat and hearing “Merry Christmas” called from a hundred happy urchins and rosy-cheeked neighborly types. I’d like to live in the last chapter of A Christmas Carol, please.

Another thing about it being 15 days to Christmas means that it’s 39 days UNTIL MY WEDDING.  Yikes! It’s funny how the reactions change now that it’s like, next month.  Before, I would be at some worthy place of business (yes, I’m still stuck in A Christmas Carol) and someone inevitably would ask why I was buying 10 steel pails. I’d reply, “It’s for my wedding” Them, “Oh, when are you getting married?” Me, “January 18th” Them, “Oh, well then, you’ve got time…” as though I was unaware of how far away January 18th actually was.

NOW, however, when I go to buy a wedding accessory, the conversation goes like this: Me, “It’s for my wedding” Them, “Oh, when are you getting married?” Me, “January 18th” Them, with dramatic sucking in of breath and widening eyes “Oh! It’s coming up so fast! Wow! You better get going!”

To which I always want to respond: “Remember when you told me I had time? Well I didn’t. So it’s a good thing I didn’t listen and got some things done WAY BACK then.”

But I don’t, and instead I smile and tell them I’m working on it… yes, I’m stressed… but yes, so in love… yes, thank you.  And then I’m always glad that I took the time to be nice and share my story, because most people want to believe in marriage and love.

And I got free Cold Stone for my birthday today. And I’m almost 25. Whoa.

  1. I like the new banner…I’m impressed you made it.

Not sure if that means I am a $10 Old Navy sweater kind of girl…but possibly 🙂
