Worth it Wedding

Sometimes, planning a wedding feels like the hardest possible thing you could choose to do with ALL your spare time.  It’s not so much the wedding itself that’s tough (who doesn’t love throwing a big party?) it’s the organizing of all the people, dresses, gifts, details, and of course the x-factor that is families and feelings, coming together for what we all hope is a beautiful celebration instead of a cataclysmic event.

But this weekend I was reminded why we scrimp and save and call our moms and girlfriends and go crazy on our fiances and cry and forget what it was like to not have a to-do list a mile long.

Our very own Phil and Kirsten got married on Saturday night, and Adam and I were blessed to both be part of the Wedding Party.  It was one of the most beautiful, honest and refreshing weddings I’ve ever been a part of, the kind of day that makes you laugh and cry and feel blessed all the way to your toes.

In the days and hours before the wedding, we had some awesome girl-time, unstressed, mostly unstructured, and the epitome of what I believe is one of Kirsten’s gifts: gracious, unhurried and comfortable relationship.  We were talking and realized that you can tell a lot about a bride by the people she has around her on the biggest day of her life, and how she handles the day itself.  All of the bridesmaids felt so honored to be involved, absolutely not stressed, and just so happy for Phirsten in general.

I told Kirsten that I’m taking notes… I only hope that my turn is as gracious, beautiful and becoming as hers.  God bless as you start your new adventure, it was a joy to be part of the beginning.
