Texan Times

We just got back from five days in the Lone Star state, and it was a great time with our family (even sneaking in a couple of hours with friends!) Here’s some of the highlights:

Please note the intense runner, while Adam and Ashley seem to think the 5K course is just there for photo ops. Some people.

Also, Ashley’s laugh is one of the best sounds you will ever hear. Adam hears it a lot. Also, please note the CGI-esque nature of Adam’s hand position. He’s an  iPhone Jedi.

While Adam and Ashley were out being very healthful and vigorous, I slept in and then wrapped Thanksgiving foods in bacon, because that’s how we roll in Texas.

We spent a lovely Thanksgiving watching the Cowboys lose (boo) and TCU win (YAY!) while lounging inside and out, never far from beverages, food or football. Dad and Katie recently re-did their backyard, (complete with a jacuzzi and an outdoor TV) so sitting outside was really fun. I especially liked taking advantage of the rocking chairs and the supply of Diet Coke in the outdoor fridge. It’s the little things….

On Friday, Ashley and I did a little shopping, although Anthropologie let us down and we might write them angry letters if they don’t bring back their sweet Black Friday sale from last year. Amazingly enough, Adam was quite content with an eggnog latte and a stack of hunting magazines in Barnes and Noble the entire time we shopped, so I consider that a victory in itself.

Post-shopping, we headed out to Mom and Warren’s for Thanksgiving #2, Pot Roast edition. They have a great little lake house and it’s always fun to go walking around the lake with their doggie, Jessie, and try to make friends with the ducks. We also got their Christmas tree with them, and it smelled so good and was so fun to help decorate, and even though Adam insisted that Ashley and I are not very good at hanging lights, we enjoyed ourselves.

The rest of the weekend we spent eating, discussing football and TCU sports and all the other things that you talk about when you haven’t seen each other in a long time, sleeping in, watching Lincoln (so good!), seeing a few old ACU friends and eating some more (we got to try Tim Love’s Woodshed smokehouse, and my lord it was tasty). We miss you Texas, with your billboards and your Sonics and your BBQ and your lovely people. I am eating salad for a week though, in an effort to let my poor insides recover from all the butter-coated and bacon-wrapped goodness.
