Ten Reasons Why Cowboys and Aliens was Awesome

When Adam and I announced our intention to see Cowboys and Aliens this weekend, we were mocked all around. “COWBOYS and WHAT?!” our friends guffawed at our expense.

Well.

Never ones to be deterred, we went anyway, and ba-da-da-DA! we were definitely vindicated. Without further ado, I bring you the top 10 reasons why Cowboys and Aliens rocked, and you should totally listen to us all the time because we have impeccable taste.

  1. People keep criticizing it as “silliness with a straight face”. Hi, People. I’d like to introduce you to a little genre known as an action movie. No, I don’t actually believe that British superspies wear jet-packs or that Jason Statham can jump expensive cars through high-rises and miraculously not only survive but kill oodles of bad guys as he blasts through the air. It’s all silly. It’s called escapism, and I’m using it these days to keep from drinking myself into a coma every time someone mentions the debt ceiling.
  2. Harrison Ford. Han Solo is back and riding horses instead of the Millenium Falcon in pursuit of otherworldly villians. It’s still awesome.
  3. Western costuming. I’m sorry, but I never saw a man in boots I didn’t like.
  4. Also, vests and gunbelts. Sexy as all get-out.
  5. Aliens get lassoed. This was Adam’s great hope for the film, and I am happy to report that it came true.
  6. No nasty stuff. The violence is all cartoony and over-the-top and just FUN. It was refreshing to not have to attend a cartoon to avoid soft-core porn or ridiculous gore.
  7. I did jump, however. I am a complete wuss and the aliens are a little freaky on occasion.
  8. A faithful doggie riding along with the cowboys. It made me miss my own horse and doggie days.
  9. Cool Southwestern scenery.
  10. Scenes like this one:

Yes, that is as awesome as you think it is. The case, it makes itself.

Definitely going to see it! 🙂

  2. We went and saw it opening weekend too! I thought it was definitely entertaining…I don’t love alien stuff just because I think they are gross…but I’m with you, I love a good western in most any form.
