Guess who talked to my husband and set her purse down next to me last night?

Drew Barrymore. And guess what else? She’s TINY. As in like, 5 feet tall and still carrying a bag the size of a weekend duffel, a trend that I will never understand. But seriously, what’s the point of being so small if all the casual movie-goers of the world think you’re normal-size? Just sayin’.

I’m not the kind of person who gets flustered about famous people, or who even usually knows who they are. (Lara and Val, you can commence eye-rolling, I know, LAME) and this low-key little event didn’t really seem like the kind of place to star-gaze, anyway. But when Brian Baumgartner is standing in line behind you for tickets and Will Arnett walks by nonchalantly and Sean and Sara Watkins are definitely standing RIGHT THERE – it makes even the least celebrity-crazed brain feel a little weird.

But I’m sure you’re wondering what star-studded place we found ourselves in last night, and since I can’t come up with a clever way to tease you, I’ll just say it. We went to this tiny little theater in Beverly Hills to watch the Whiskey Sour Radio Hour – a bluegrass/comedy night put on by none other than Ed Helms, of “what do tigers dream of” fame. It was one of those spur-of-the-moment plans that turn out better than things you’ve planned to for months… so much so that we stayed for two extra hours in the bar next door to hear more quality jamming and notice with a “gah!” moment that Ed Helms was sitting RIGHT behind me with his banjo.

Today we’re drinking extra coffee to make up for our 2 a.m. bedtime, but I’m reminded that we may not always live here, and we should enjoy it while we can. After all, there’s not much better than bluegrass for setting the world right.

  1. You saw Andy Bernard AND Danielle De Barbarac AND Gob Bluth???? SO not fair. But I’m happy for you– that sounds like fun! 🙂

Now I’m wondering what other famous people were there that you just didn’t recognize…. 😉

  2. I was hoping you would post something about this so I could hear the whole story! How fun! Of course, I’m totally jealous.
